Sludge collection

In Kimitoön and the Pargas archipelago, sludge-tank emptying is handled by Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto (LSJH). For the time being, the residents of Aura, Kaarina, Lieto, Marttila, Masku, Mynämäki, Naantali, Nousiainen, Paimio, Pargas (excluding the main islands of Nagu, Korpo and Houtskär), Pöytyä, Raisio, Rusko, Salo, Sauvo, and Turku agree on sludge-tank emptying with a company of their choice.

Regular emptying in all municipalities

Permanent homes and holiday homes (with flush toilets) outside sewer networks: Septic tanks must be emptied at least once a year. Holiday homes with only a dry toilet: Septic tanks must be emptied at least once every two years. Cesspools are emptied when necessary.

The whole area’s sludge collection will be transferred to LSJH

The Southwest Finland Waste Management Committee has decided to transfer the whole area’s sludge collection to LSJH. In Aura, Kaarina, Lieto, Marttila, Masku, Mynämäki, Naantali, Nousiainen, Paimio, Pargas, Pöytyä, Raisio, Rusko, Salo, Sauvo, and Turku, sludge collection will be transferred to LSJH during 2021–2026. In the future, LSJH will organise tender competitions for sludge transportation on behalf of the residents in these municipalities as well.
