Area with contractual waste transport

Turku, Kaarina, Lieto, Aura, Pöytyä, Marttila, Salo, Sauvo, Uusikaupunki and Paimio, as well as the area of the former Pargas and Rusko municipalities

Each property shall have its own waste container

In Turku, Kaarina, Lieto, Aura, Pöytyä, Marttila, Salo, Sauvo, Uusikaupunki and Paimio, as well as the area of the former Pargas and Rusko municipalities, residents make a household-specific waste collection contract with their preferred waste transport company. The waste transport company bills its customers according to a price list. It is advisable to ask for offers from several transport companies.

The waste container of a detached house must have a lid and wheels. Only sorted burnable waste, used for energy production at a waste-to-energy plant, is to be put in the waste container. The most common container size is 240 litres, well suited for a family of four. Our customer service is happy to help you select a suitable container. Waste containers can be bought from DIY stores and the waste transport company, for example. Transport companies also often offer the opportunity to rent a waste container.

The waste container shall be located so that the distance from the waste collection vehicle to the waste container does not exceed 10 metres. Often, the best place is at the junction of the driveway to the property. The road must be able to bear the weight of the waste collection vehicle, often more than 20 tonnes. There shall also be enough room to turn the vehicle. The container should be marked with the name of the owner or the number of the house.

Emptying of the waste container

The longest interval for the emptying of a burnable waste container is four weeks. If the property is composting food waste in a compost bin protected from rodents, the interval for the emptying of the waste container can be extended to eight or even twelve weeks.

The waste containers of summer homes shall be emptied at least during the period between May and the beginning of October.

Where to take other types of waste?

Only everyday burnable household waste shall be put in your own waste container. Glass, metal, paper, cardboard and plastic containers shall be taken to a public waste recycling point. You can find the recycling point locations with the help of the recycling point search. It is advisable to compost food waste in a heat-insulated compost bin.

Waste hazardous to the environment and humans shall be taken to a waste treatment centre or sorting station. This also applies to electronic devices, renovation waste, furniture, and garden waste. For more detailed sorting instructions please see the Waste search.

All reusable goods should be taken to a recycling centre or flea market.
